Radiotherapy for cervical cancer

Radiotherapy uses high energy x-rays to kill cervical cancer cells. Treatment for early stage or locally advanced cervical cancer is usually chemoradiotherapy, followed by internal radiotherapy.

The radiotherapy team plan your external radiotherapy before you start treatment.

Radiotherapy uses high energy x-rays to treat cervical cancer cells. You have the treatment in the hospital radiotherapy department.

Internal radiotherapy for cervical cancer means giving radiotherapy to the cancer from inside the body. It is also called brachytherapy.

Radiotherapy for cervical cancer can cause side effects. The side effects vary from person to person. You may not have all of the effects mentioned.
